Along the River Lys: The Franco-Belgian Border Part Four – Wervicq-Sud War Memorial

South of the river, in Wervicq-Sud, this French memorial mourns the dead of two World Wars.

Tablets around the base of the memorial remember those who died in other, smaller conflicts (note that, top right, one tablet is missing) or individual battles.  Two of the names inscribed on the memorial (bottom left) are of soldiers killed in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871.

Click here if you wish to see the cleaned-up memorial, 2019-style.  Otherwise, click here for Part Five.
