Wincanton – Church of St. Peter & St. Paul
This entry was posted in Somerset, U.K. Churches, Memorials & Cemeteries - Back in Blighty. Bookmark the permalink.
What an excellent and well-photographed record of the WW1 and WW2 memorials in Wincanton Parish Church. Very pleasing to see them so well cared for, with, for example, brass and copper well polished.
Ther is one more WW1 memorial – though hard to spot as such – to Lt Grant-Dalton, Hood Division, RND. The inscription is on the base of the carved wooden screen between the chancel and nave (on the RHS of the church as you face the altar). His father was Rector when Wincanton Church was rebuilt in the 1890s.
Thanks Colin. Your comments are much appreciated. You have hit on one of the problems with just ‘dropping in’ rather than researching beforehand, but if I find myself in Wincanton again, I shall be sure to correct the omission.
