Six Months Update

260520144273

Those of you who have been paying attention will be aware of a slight altercation that occurred at the end of last year between me and the river that runs not so far from my front door.  You will also recall that I lost.  Heavily.  Well here we are, six months down the line, and this, my friends, is the current state of affairs:

150620144291

150620144289

150620144288

So it appears I now have a floor, of sorts, and soon, I am reliably informed, I might even have some electrics!  From all this you will gather that returning home is not exactly imminent, and until I get home (the suggestion is October) I cannot access my WWI books which are nearly all, those that survived the flood, currently in storage.  This, you will appreciate, makes finding the information to create the posts that are the raison d’être for this little site somewhat problematic, which in turn explains the small number of Flanders posts that have been uploaded in recent months.  And yes, I know the interweb is a wonderful thing, but it ain’t the be-all and end-all, and it doesn’t have all the answers.  Yet.  Maybe it never will.  I digress.  The Back in Blighty category, which I know some of you are interested in and some of you are not (Baldrick resides firmly in the latter camp), is fairly regularly updated depending on where my travels take me, but I suspect we are looking towards early next year before normal service, so to speak, is resumed.  Bear with me.

What a disheartening mess mate! And the cement mixer! However, I’m sure it will all turn out AOK in the end ….. glad it’s not Carole and me suffering such a disaster

    Cheers

We are still feeling relieved after all these months that your family all were all rescued safely. I do appreciate the walk through of the UK churches, and town memorials. All of our Canadian church architecture is so … recent.

  3. Kathryn Atkin says:

Glad some progress has been made.
Re. Books – the members of the Greatwarforum are very helpful in looking things up.
Thanks for all you have managed to do.
    Kath.

I also know about not having access to the books. It can be frustrating. However Kath is correct the some one on the great war forum will always help out.

Yes, a colleague at work and sometime spotter for me on some of my Surrey trips (he’s appeared in this blog on a couple of occasions) is a member. His moniker is Bootneck, so although not a member myself – not entirely sure why not – I do have access at times, so to speak. Advice nonetheless appreciated.

It’s kind of heartbreaking, seeing your house and the state it’s in, having been there, and remembering what a lovely cosy place it was. On the other hand, it’s good to see work has begun to restore it to its rightful state! Any plans on visiting us in the coming months, MF? Always welcome, as I’m sure you know…

  6. Ms Baldrick says:

Always welcome, as Mr Baldrick says.
Keep the morals high!! Works will be done in a snap, you’ll see.
Regards & hugs to both of you and the animal family!!

  7. Magicfingers says:

Thank you all for your kind comments. They are appreciated, as I hope you all realize. And Baldricks both, the missus and I will be discussing possible dates this very weekend. That’s a promise (or a threat). Will be in touch….

  8. Ms Baldrick says:
