The Daily Postcard No. 6

Bearing in mind your comments yesterday, here are a couple of similar images, both originally scheduled for a couple of weeks time but brought forward to today, the first entitled (on the reverse, which is otherwise blank)  ‘In Dire Need of Rescue’…

…and the second the same as yesterday, simply ‘Saved’ (reverse below).

Ah you tease – I was on the right track albeit with a bit of attempted humour.

Thank you for making the grey matter work – or is it “a vivid imagination”

  2. Nick Kilner says:

Really interesting. As a series, the implication of the cards becomes a little more obvious. That said I still think it’s surprising to see a country displaying images of their forces in a dire situation. It does show hope, but hope of rescue is a far cry from hope of victory which I also think displays a very significant shift in attitude from the artist. Great postcards! And thank you for amending your display order to bring these in today.
I’m going to send you a picture of one which you may or may not have already seen. It’ll put a smile on your face I’m sure.

  3. Andrew Brennan says:

Now that we all realize that these cards are highlighting the German maritime SAR (Search & Rescue) service, they seem imbued more with an overwrought Victorian sense of drama than anything else.

    • Magicfingers says:

They are certainly dramatic. To be honest, I have to say I am still unsure whether the captions are referring to the man or the flag.

  4. Margaret Draycott says:

No matter what situation they are in they are keeping the flag of Germany flying. In my humble opinion and not wanting to over scrutinise(wrong word couldn’t think of the right one)
