The Daily Postcard No. 35

More sentimental German postcards today.

Three cards sent to a German fusilier by the name of Johann Kempfer, the first towards the end of June 1917,…

…the second in October 1917,…

…and the third on 24th February 1918.

Aawwww – how cute – all they need is a big full mellow super harvest moon. Just think of all those movies and songs about lovers and the moon.

    • Magicfingers says:

I’d rather not – they’ll all include ‘moon’ & ‘June’, which is the second worst rhyme in a song ever.

  2. Nick Kilner says:

Another very nice set. I wonder if it was just a set of three, or if there were more? One every six months isn’t terribly prolific. Perhaps he worked on the ‘treat ‘em mean, keep ‘em keen’ philosophy lol

    • Magicfingers says:

He looks the sort. Actually, your point is good, but it’s difficult to say – I have German sets of four and six, but some of the British sets are definitely three. Personally, I agree with you, and there probably were four or six in this set.

  3. Margaret Draycott says:

Could imagine a young lady receiving these from her young man and her heart skipping a beat. Proper soppy cards Aaaaaah

  4. Margaret Draycott says:

But…… of course it’s the other way around, she was obviously wanting to keep him keen and just to know someone at home loves him, wish we knew what she said.

  5. Magicfingers says:

Me too. One day I shall get round, or one day I won’t get round, to getting them translated – it’s on the list of things to do.
