Towednack – Church of St Tewennocus

It’s lonely up here, a bit grey, and a little chilly.

And after all the effort, the 13th Century church is closed.  Grrrrr.

But over in a corner of the churchyard,…

…a single memorial remembers Private Hugh William Dunstan, D.C.L.I., who was twenty eight when he was killed on 27th March (28th according to the CWGC) 1945.  He now lies in Reichswald Forest War Cemetery in Cleves (now Kleve) in Germany,…

…although he was originally buried elsewhere before being exhumed and reinterred in October 1946.

what a pity it wasnt open. a bit of a sad reflection that they lock up churches these days. A nice find.

Agree with you Nick I love to go into old churches and look at the history in them. Always leave a donation. Sadly a sign of the times.
    Thanks for sharing M.
