Hand on heart – looks like he’s been chewing Beetle Nuts … and that’s a mean looking sausage … full of saltpeter? Dangerous stuff in more ways than one. My cousin got shot with a blast of it once, when pinching a pomegranate, the dear old lady owner would sell them for threepence if you asked for one and used a “saltpeter gun” on kids who reached over her fence.
