French Flanders: From Laventie to Neuve Chapelle Part One – Laventie Military Cemetery
Our last trip to French Flanders, four years ago now, took us along the River Lys from Erquinghem to La Gorgue, ending with a visit to the Great War burials within the town’s communal cemetery.

Less than a mile south west of Estaires, and now just south, once more, of the River Lys, our penultimate stop on the first part of this tour finds us at the war memorial in the centre of La Gorgue.

Estaires war memorial is not only quite unusual, and I think quite beautiful, but damned tricky to photograph, even if it doesn’t look it.
