Stratherrick War Memorial

You want evocative Scottish war memorials?  I can do that.

You won’t be surprised to hear that this is an old military road,…

…and I’m off that way.  Looks rather nice.

One Response to Stratherrick War Memorial

Wow! Incredible… what a location! Memorial on a rock with an amazing view. I guess those men would have known this sight and loved home, the names; Farquhar McDonald, Angus McPherson, Donald McGillivray… Scotsmen.

Have you been to the War Memorials at Comrie or Crieff? My great-grandparents emigrated from Comrie to Australia in the late 1880s. One of my distant cousins from Comrie was in the Black Watch during WW2 and family folklore says on a ship an officer asked him to change places for the officer had a dog which was not allowed in the officers quarters. There was a Stuka raid and the place where the officer was had a bomb explode there and many men were killed including this officer. My distant cousin survived. True story? Not sure…

The Crieff War Memorial has some Australian names on there which I am intrigued about… Canadians and an American too?
