HI, My name is Marion & my husband & I are visiting Cornwall at the end April, beg May this year. This trip is to undertake family research as well. I am seeking the grave of my gggrandfather, Matthew Paul Moyle and any members of the family – Hornblower, other Moyle ancestors. I am wondering if you are able to advise just where the graves are situated and is it possible for us to walk the cemetery and look at and photograph these graves. This will allow me to feel close to them and just know where they lived and are now buried.
Thank you in advance and so many thanks for any assistance you may be able to offer.
    Kind regards
    Marion

Marion, I did reply to your previous message! I am afraid that I was just visiting Helston whilst on holiday when I took these photos so I really can’t help you much. What I can tell you is that there is no problem gaining entry to the churchyard and photographing any of the headstones there. Get in touch with the local history society who I’m sure will be happy to offer you advice. Also find out who holds the Parish records so that you can arrange to see the registers on your visit (they may be available online anyway). Good luck and I hope you enjoy your trip.

Sorry about this late reply. Only just found it, in fact. I want to thank you – late as it is – for your reply. We did so enjoy our trip. I found where my gggrandfather lived and died at the end of his life but did not find his grave. We visited the Truro records office but still no luck. Will go again – must find it.

        Thank you – regards
        Marion

Only a little late! I am glad you had a good trip, and found some links with your great great grandfather, if not his grave – you will have to start checking other parishes, I suppose. Good luck. Let us know if you do find him, won’t you. No hurry though! Lol!

Thank you for these beautiful photos – my cousin was buried here with others when his Lancaster was shot down over the Lizard in 1942 – at that time i was one year old and have a card from him saying with love from Fly away Jack – he was only 21.
The graves are well looked after and now i live in Cornwall i can visit them.

Ann, it appears that I failed to respond to your comment many months ago! I’m a very bad man! You’ll probably never read this, but in case you do, thanks for your comments, and for telling us about your cousin. Very sad.

Can you please tell me if there is a Hughes Campbell Lockyer buried in the Helston Cemetery?

    Peter G.

    • Magicfingers says:

There is no military grave with that name at Helston Peter. As far as non-military, sorry, I have no idea. Maybe someone else does?

  5. Michael Collins says:

Hello, is there a headstone at Helston for a Michael Delaney, RAF pilot?

    • Magicfingers says:

The only thing that I can tell you, Michael, is that there is no official CWGC headstone to a Michael Delaney at Helston. Whether he is buried there in a private grave I’m afraid I do not know.
