The Germans could do sentimental stuff too. Don’t do it!
The brave hero with wounded hand and warm knees.
And I’m not really sure what’s going on here, but it’s all very scary. Don’t do it!

Top one – lovely lilac coloured dress and why the single wooden (?) hair ring (? ladies ?)
He with perfectly parted hair in both top and middle – and what’s with the roses? Should be a bottle of Schnapps. And it would be a bit difficult to read that heavy book (on table) one-handed
Bottom one – easy – he’s saying “Don’t worry about me Oma, you’re my rock and I’ll be OK. I promise I’ll fight bravely for das Vaterland and bring you back a medal”
Well that’s one interpretation. And, to be fair, closer to the one intended than any of mine!!
Dodgy, very dodgy. That’s all I’m gonna say on the matter hahaha
Among many interpretations, some of which are unpublishable, I did come up with; “I’ve fallen for the old superglue on the shoulders trick again, haven’t I Ma?” “Yes dear, you’re not going back to the front in a hurry.” And for some reason I’m sure they’ve both got lizard-tongues……
hahahaha, love it
Your a weird bunch…. to read such deviance into a simple postcard. Sids version is on the nail. Although Oma does look a bit scary. Don’t know about the hair ring unless it’s attached to a comb of sorts. Very smart the German lads.
Perhaps she had just said: “I am sendink you to ze Vestern Frrront ver you vil die” which made him speechless so much so that he can only smile in disbelief of what his dear scary Oma has said.
Margaret – my wife suspected there had to be a comb hidden somewhere but I can’t work out how it’s been hidden in her otherwise perfectly coiffured hair. The ring looks like a golden Wedding ring so how come she’s not in white? Or is it just brass …..
It’s all those magic lanterns over the years……..
Very funny Sid and cleverly spelt. Perhaps it was there wedding day no time for the usual frills and finery. Think your looking to deeply into these cards though Sid
A quick google of ‘antique German hair ring’ (no sniggering please MF!) brings up a number of such items, and apparently they were woven into the hair. So no you know.
Very well done thanks Nick. I reckon you’ve nailed it.
Please don’t “worry” Margaret – it’s all fun (definitely not serious) and I have a vivid imagination and a love for detail – makes the old grey matter work
I love these postcards – and I think because of the time difference from when MF posts I am “first cab off the rank” – I really enjoy your’s and other’s observations and comments. I hope I encourage you all into “lateral thinking”
Now past my bedtime – and my 93 year old sister’s funeral tomorrow – just been brushing up her Eulogy
*titter*
I know Sid and yes you do make me think and see things from a different perspective as do you all which is what is good about these postcards.
Yes yours are always the first comments Sid we’re going to bed as you are starting your day.
So sorry Sid to hear about your sister, what a grand old age. Guess it’s today now for you, tell us more about her if you want to. Hope all goes well.
