It seems we are off to Egypt today.
Well, not exactly. Having spent most of the year in the Ypres area, 4th Bn. King’s Royal Rifle Corps embarked for Salonika in November 1915, and would remain there until June 1918. This card was written in transit on the outward journey; it’s doubtful whether George and his brother actually knew their destination at the time of writing.
thank you for this – my father in law was in Palestine during the 1 WW
Thanks Morag.
Thankyou all for your messages of welcome. I shall be an occasional contributor to this site at least. Good to see you discuss other things as well, like contemporary politics – makes it even more lively! What is it about the First World War that grabs people, eh…I thought the last Remembrance Day service, after the 4-year anniversary was out the way, deliberately sought to avoid mentioning it as if someone or other thought it was time to move on. I disagree!
Hello Guy. Nicely put. I know exactly what you mean, but I think we need to wait for the next couple of Remembrance Services before we can say for certain. I hope we are wrong.
Sad how they all write so cheerily on these cards which ever direction they go in each trying to bolster the other.
Duncan the Elder I have it now, he’s like Baldrick one of your faithful minnions keeping you organised and in order :- checklist meister.
Got a problem with latest posting M it won’t load?
He is indeed a faithful minion – you’ve got it. He has just sent me a package with enough coffee in it to last all summer, I would think. He does indeed keep me in order!
Don’t worry about the latest post – it was an error – next one 9.00am tomorrow.
You are a fortunate man indeed to have such friends.
That’s ok then
Night M.
I am indeed. Night M.
