Oh, I do like a romantic poem. And these two look suitably well-matched, wouldn’t you say?
Of course she is! Honestly, have more faith.
Oh my goodness! What a hussy (sorry, ladies). She’s not thinking about him at all. She’s been beguiled by a sailor with rosy cheeks. Yet another minor tragedy of war. And still the writer of the poem struggles with his closing verse. What to rhyme with ‘tell her where I am’? Got it! How about ‘Marconi telegram’? The cheque’s in the post.
That last line was definitely a bit of a stretch! lol. Great cards though
What would be today’s rhyme: “I hope she’s looking after my bike. I know, I’ll give her a call on Skype”. The cheque etc etc.
Hmmmm, I probably wouldn’t give up the day job just yet, that cheque may be some time in arriving lol
How very dare you!
You’d have rosy cheeks if you were bobbing about on some ocean. Sorry lads, but does it matter how many dream of her if it gets them through the nights and days. What a soppy lot they are.
But lovely postcards.
The reality is I have probably cheated here – I presume there are two sets of cards, one with a soldier, and one with a sailor, and both with the same rhyme, and I have sneakily mixed them together. But they are fun, aren’t they?
Awww, bless. At least the first one has a photo of her!! Hope she has one of him! 🙂
She’s got a whole photo album of different soldiers, I reckon. You can see it in her eyes.
Yeah, proper floozy that one
I don’t believe a word of it! Hee, hee!
Is it just me, or is there a sniper in a ghillie suit in number 2? I was so distracted by the young mans pensive expression that I’ve only just noticed it
Yes, I see him. On the right? There’s something on the left too.
And there’s Nessie in the background of the last one…….actually, I’m kidding about that one.
And the bottom line is that it looks like a sniper in a ghillie suit, but it cannot possibly be so, the background, as we know, being a painted set somewhere in Yorkshire. But it’s a fiendishly good spot nonetheless.
I wonder if they might have painted it in for a little ‘added authenticity’? Is the card dated? Tbh it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been caught out by an odd shaped bush. Ive even been attacked by them returning from the pub on occasion!
Interestingly, if you zoom right in on the image there are a pair of eyes, or more precisely what appears to be a pair of eyes. The only thing a sniper can’t hide. But it’s funny the tricks the mind can play. Now I’ve got you wondering hehehe
I see what you mean. I’m not sure if thats something or not tbh. It may just be meant to be background rock formations or something similar, but its definitely slightly unusual. And yes, the sniper is to the right, though I’d need confirmation of the date of the postcard before I could say thats a definite. The Ghillie suit didn’t come into use during WW1 until 1916 when Lovat Scouts were formed into the first sniper units, so if the card predates that then its probably just an oddly shaped bush..
He said ‘oddly shaped bush’. Twice (cue Frankie Howerd titter).
Definitely looks like a sniper on the right! And to me it looks like a group in the background on the left, maybe sitting down?
Now, I am looking at the original under a bloody microscope. You remember Swamp Thing…….??
