Edinburgh Waverley Station – North British Railway Company Roll of Honour

From Highlands to Lowlands, and yep, those are platforms, and this is a terminus, and if you look to the left,…

…you will see a Roll of Honour,…

…with far too many names listed on it, and, before I forget, an interesting and unusual little plaque on the wall to its left,…

…here in close-up.

The Roll actually lists 775 names, all of whom worked for the North British Railway Company in peacetime, and all of whom died in the Great War.  The two tablets below the Roll are, on the left,…

…the original commemoration panel,…

…which was once placed centrally beneath the Roll, the mark it made still visible, but was moved…

…when another World War necessitated a second plaque, more general in its terms, and therefore unaccompanied by names.

I’ll leave you with the panels.  How unusual, and interesting, that the peacetime jobs of each of the casualties is also listed.  Click to enlarge.
