my wife has a relative the died during the 1914-1918 war where would i find out where he is buried please.( s.c.vinson)
thank you
terry
Would this be him, bearing in mind the Tavistock connection (it is not uncommon to find that initials and sometimes names have been recorded incorrectly), or is this maybe a different relative?:
VINSON, SIDNEY EDWARD
Rank: Gunner
Service No: 865602
Date of Death: 06/11/1918
Regiment/Service: Royal Field Artillery
“C” Battery. 122nd Brigade.
Grave Reference: III. C. 16.
Cemetery: CROSS ROADS CEMETERY, FONTAINE-AU-BOIS, FRANCE
Additional Information: Husband of A. Vinson, of 10, Taylor Square, Tavistock, Devon.
How sad. He so nearly made it.
I have the WW1 Victory Medal to Sidney Edward Vinson. Would this be of interest to the family?
I have emailed Terry – hopefully he might see your comment Chris.
Many thanks for getting back so quickly. I like to see items going back to families, if possible.
No problem at all Chris, and I couldn’t agree more. Unfortunately it seems it ain’t gonna happen on this occasion. The email has been bounced back and the link on his name doesn’t work for me. And his comment was three and a half years ago. Nothing else I can do really. Maybe he’ll see your comment one day? But it was very good of you to post it in the first place.
Hi
My Great Uncle, Frederick Charles Woodrow was killed on 9/9/18 and is remembered on the Tavistock War Memorial. I know very little about him but have picked up some info on Ancestry and know where he is buried. I have no idea where his medals might be and wonder if there is any local info regarding these men held in Tavistock ?
Thanks
Hi Sarah. Thanks for commenting. There’s a museum in Tavistock – get in touch with them and I’m sure they could let you know.
