Upper Heyford – St. Mary’s Church, Upper Heyford Cemetery & War Memorial

Early in World War II this area of the cemetery was used for burials by R.A.F. personnel stationed at the nearby Upper Heyford Air Base.  All the burials here with the exception of two date from 1940-1942 (there is one burial from 1939, and one from 1943).

  1. Nick Forder says:

The RAF opened a mortuary in Middleton Stoney in 1942 and so almost all the 16 Operational Training Unit fatalities who were not claimed by their families or were from overseas from then on were buried at Middleton Stoney. From 1945 the Commonwealth War Graves cemetery at Botley was used.
