Fort Augustus War Memorial Hall
This entry was posted in Highlands, Scotland, U.K. Churches, Memorials & Cemeteries - Back in Blighty. Bookmark the permalink.
interestingly there is a memorial hall in Ardersier- the village on the way to Fort George but it is a different design………..just in case you did not know
and once upon a time i got the chance to open the lock gates at Fort Augustus – the original Thomas Telford ones – i was like a bairn in a sweetie shop
I can imagine! Excellent.
Never ceases to amaze the beauty of landscape we have in these British Isles, lovely old memorial hall astonishing how all the towns and villages managed to fund the building of a hall in commemoration of those who served and survived or died. Thanks for sharing.
Couldn’t agree more.
Our village has a very nice memorial hall which is still a hub for community events to this day.
Of the hundred local men who went to war from the village and the surrounding hamlets – 49 never returned.
That’s a pretty large percentage. Good to hear the hall is still put to good use, of course.
