What happened to the gun, I know not.  Perhaps it went the way of all scrap metal during World War II.

A greyer day some years later:

I photographed this cross on my first visit,…

…but somehow missed the grave of this D.C.L.I. private – the first name on the war memorial we looked at earlier –  who died in 1920.  It happens.
